What is the Prometheus Programme?

The Prometheus Programme on Transition Studies is an English-language programme offered at the University of Tartu, Estonia. The programme focuses on transition experiences and current developments in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia, combining the perspectives of Political Science, Economics and Legal Studies. The program is offered every year: autumn (September-January) semester and spring semester (February-June).

What does it offer?

The programme offers a unique opportunity to explore transition issues in a country that has historically served as a gateway between the East and the West and has recently experienced a transition "miracle". In order to create a truly memorable transition experience, the programme combines coursework with study trips, other educational activities and social events. The programme features courses on transition in Eastern Europe and Russia:

Specialties

  • Range of specialized courses available from other faculties
  • Guided study trips to Russia and Latvia
  • A tour of Estonia's governing institutions and sites, ancient and modern
  • A study trip to Narva - Estonian and EU's eastern border
  • Language classes: Estonian and Russian (beginner and advanced levels)
  • Guest lectures by Baltic, Russian and Scandinavian academics and transition experts
  • Estonian and Transition Film Series: selected movies/documentaries about Estonia and transition experience
  • Opportunities for independent study and research
  • Social events and interaction with local and international students

Who can apply?

Everyone who's interested in European Union, both BA or MA students.

Application

1st of April to non-EU applicants and 1st of June for EU applicants.
